Seven Must-Do’s for Couple Cosplayers

Hello, Goldies, I’m back with more tales of adventure!

So many of you already know that I like to go to cons and cosplay. Well, I had the incredible and adorable opportunity to do a couple cosplay with someone besides my brother.

I cosplayed Asuna from Sword Art Online, and the bae cosplayed Kirito. Yes, the biggest ship in the anime industry (well maybe not, but I think so.)

Without further ado, here are 7 MUST-DO’s for couple cosplayers. Spoken from experience.

1)Take pictures.

Okay this one is obvious. What’s a cosplay without pictures. You’re going to have people constantly asking you, “Can I take your picture? You guys are sooo cute!!!” And so you have to be all cute for ten seconds and smile… or be epic.

  • Take cute pictures – Because you’re a couple. You have to be adorable.

conbust13

  • Take epic pictures – Those in-character pictures that are all dramatic and super cool-looking.
  • conbust11
  • Take selfies… lots of selfies. – What’s a cosplay without selfies?

Conbust17

2) Hug.

People think it’s cute, apparently. More photo ops.

3) Help each other out.

I speak from experience – You both are cosplaying, and you both need some help with the cosplay sometimes. If you’re cool with it, help each other out once in awhile. My Kirito had some serious wig problems every time he started headbanging to a song. It made for some very interesting wig-styling pictures.

4) Look at your merch.

I mean, you’re at a con! You’re bound to find some merchandise related to your cosplay. Maybe grab a souvenir, or just look at it.

5) Find your people.

Look for your fandom. Hetalians and Homestucks are hard to miss. If you find your tribe of weirdness, you might be able to do a group cosplay photoshoot, and those are pretty cool!

conbust20

6) Play the Pocky game.

If you’ve heard of the Pocky game, good. If you haven’t, just think Lady and the Tramp pasta scene… with chocolate covered biscuit sticks.

And of course…

7) Just kiss.

If you’re not cosplaying with your brother, just kiss. You’ll be in-character anyways.

Soooo that’s a wrap. Have you ever done a couple cosplay before? Share in the comments below.

See you guys next time! 😀

(Con photo creds go to my friend Emma (@EmmaBird2015), and the bae <3. Special thanks to Conbust and the students at Smith College for the opportunity to experience this con and campus!)

Dauntless, by Dina L. Sleiman ~ An Illustrated Review

Hello, everyone!

This is my official book review for Dina Sleiman’s new book Dauntless. So, if you want to read it first (Though I will not put any spoilers), I suggest you do so now.

This book was exciting from the start. I instantly fell in love with the writing-style and the topic. Though I’m not a big fan of Robin Hood (because of the confusing writing), I was skeptical when beginning. My mistake. Dauntless’s style was spunky, to the point, and modern… while also having traditional Robin Hood dialogue.

The story was so well-plotted, I couldn’t put it down! This is basically how my afternoons were spent:bookcomic

Another thing I have to mention was the characters. The development in the characters was something to look at and say, “MAH GOODNESS, THAT’S JUST PERFECT!” And in all honestly, that statement is true. It was so well-done, I fell in love with Timothy Grey almost instantly. He was so full of ambition and love for Merry (the lady), it made me swoon (and frankly, very jealous…). Merry, on the other hand, was my role-model as a young lady the moment she was seen in the book (page 1, if you were wondering). She was so independent, and smart, and pretty, and epic, and strong, and kind, and so forth. I was like, “I WANNA BE HER!” Though I must admit, I wanted to slap her sometimes. But that’s all a part of the story….it'sallpartofthestoryBy the end of the book, I was all like:

ilovethisbook

For real, I devoured this book.

So this book deserves a wonderful…

drum roll, please…

5 RIBBONS!!! I WANT TO SEE THIS BOOK AS A MOVIE SOMEDAY.5RIBBONS

Thank you to the publisher, Bethany House, for the opportunity to review this book! 😀

Peace out,

My Review of The Manual to Manhood

Hi! I was recently asked to write a review of the book, The Manual to Manhood by Jonathan Catherman. So, if you don’t want to read this, that’s fine. It’s just a book review about a book that tells the responsibilities that teen boys need to grow into before they become men.

The Manual to Manhood was an amazing book. It’s a guide for young men to learn how to live in the adult world. MAN
I seriously appreciate the simple instructions that the book gives on pretty complex issues. It goes from simple “How to Do Laundry” or “How to to Cook an Egg” to “How to Write a Resume” and “How to Get a Date.” It deals with everything a guy needs to know and to do his part as the male role model of his future family.
All in all, this book was extremely helpful and I hope that every guy can read it while he is still a teen. I know this book will be a good resource as I become a man.

Thank you for reading this. I hope I can write again soon. Look for more book reviews on Rd2Gold!

The Past Six Months for Me

Hey! FantasyFan101 is back!

I’m guest blogging again! Last time I was here, it was October. It’s been quite a half-year for me, all really fun and other stuff. So, let’s get started!

First on the list is BOOKS! I’ve become a book addict since I last spoke on Rd2Gold. Seriously. It started a while back when I read the Book Thief. After I read that, I felt the need to read a lot more, and more, MORE!!!! So after I became a book addict, I started to read Harry Potter. Mind = BLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hp72

Second are Marvel movies. For most of my life (until February 13, 2014) I could really have cared a lot less about Captain America and Iron Man. They kind of didn’t have any appeal to me. So then #1kid came home from the library with three movies. One was the Avengers. So now I like it. A lot. wintersoldierposterNow I have seen all of Phase One and Two (so far). My favorite one out of all of them is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And I’m extremely excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Thirdly is all the movies I’ve been seeing. #1kid may have told you about some of these. But yes, there’s been a lot. The Book Thief (of course), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Monuments Men, Ender’s Game, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Lego Movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and most recently, Heaven is for Real. All of these were very good.desolationofsmaug

Fourthly, I’m still doing archery. I’ve been really good at it!

And lastly but not leastly is Bernard and Scratch. Bernard and Scratch is a novella I am plotting currently. It’s about a boy (Bernard) who meets a six foot, 12-year-old monster (Scratch).

So, that’s how I’ve been in the past six months. It was quite epic.

If you have any questions on my favorite books or other questions about books, questions about my favorites list of Marvel movies, or any questions on Bernard and Scratch, please comment.

Looking Better in Black

Hey, guys! What’s up?

A while ago I mentioned in my post, Book Worm, that I enjoyed reading. Well, with the whole concussion thing, I obviously wasn’t allowed to read.
Now, a few months later, I can proudly read again with hardly any struggles.
So what am I reading now? Well, if I do say so myself, I have been pretty obsessed with the Shadowhunters lately.
Yep! I am reading the Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare. Really, it’s a good story. I read the manga before I read the Clockwork angel Mangabooks and, just so you know, never judge a book by its manga. You don’t know the author’s writing style in it at all. You only get dialogue, which is cool, but there’s no color… of course. 😦
The thing that really perked my interest is the Mortal Instruments movie. That’s probably why I wanted to read the Infernal Devices anyway. I wanted to watch the movies in my local theatre so badly! But, I hadn’t read City of Bones yet.
Taking a deep breath, I broke the rules and bought my ticket to see the movie without reading the book first, something I never do. Ever.

The only other time I have done this was with Howl’s Moving Castle. A great movie, really. A must watch. cityofbonescoverbookBut, I read the book after the movie and, quite frankly, the book was a major disappointment. It was boring, not funny, not as romantic, and just not as good. The only similarity to the movie was the characters names and the title… not cool. I’ve always wondered if I would have enjoyed the book more if I had read it before I watched it. That was the case with City of Bones. I felt bad, guilty even, watching the movie. I didn’t want to ruin the book for myself.

I judge a movie by its story, characters and the cast choice, computer graphics and effects, and the soundtrack. City of Bones had… almost it all.
ClaryThe story, thank Cassandra for writing the story and book. The characters, thank Cassandra and the amazing actors. Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins are some of the coolest actors and actresses I’ve pinned to my Pinterest.
Visual effects… well, they were quite good. I mean, sometimes you jump out of your seat because it looks pretty real. (Which is always good.)
The soundtrack? Major disappointment. The score didn’t even have much to it. Just a few suspenseful riffs for each song! I was at least expecting a beautiful piece for the romantic scene… no, they had to play a quite cheesy Demi Lovato song. In the entire movie, I think my favorite song would have been Bach’s Prelude in C Major. (They claim that Bach is a Shadowhunter… cute.) I have an interesting taste for music, I know.

Something interesting is that everyone had a different opinion on the movie. Like here’s a few:

My friend who went to the theatre with me: “I thought the Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) was really good. I didn’t notice one mistake and Jace is soooo PERFECT!”

Alfred: “Horrringfyingly awesome but a little too dramatic.”

Ludwig: “Probably the best modern day set film I’ve seen in a while.”

littleonionwrites: The movie, overall, was great and I really enjoyed it.  I can’t wait to read the fourth installment of TMI and hope that City of Ashes is taken to the big screen.  🙂 (you can read littleonion’s full review here.)

Rotten Tomatoes: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones borrows ingredients from seemingly every fantasy franchise of the last 30 years — but can’t seem to figure out what to do with them. (Those rotten- gr…)

That night, I pretty much died of feels. My friend and I cried and hugged each other, a pole in the theatre, and the air (AKA Jace Wayland). To get my mind off of it for a while, I went to a pool to train a bit. Bad idea. You can’t swim when salty tears are filling up your swim goggles… it hurts.
My overall rating? Drumroll, please!KIDRIBBONS4

That’s right, 4 ribbons for City of Bones.
But really, if we’re going to give an extra half ribbon to on of the most stunning male protagonist, I think this movie would deserve it.

half-kidribbon

I mean, come on!Jace, my love

Book Worm

Hey, peeps! Welcome back to Road2Gold!

Sorry about that crazy long wait… Academics, sports, and stuff like that have been keeping me from blogging.

Okay so I’ve been reading A LOT lately. Cuddling with my cat and my Nook on my giant leather chair we call The Chair of Wisdom.  I’ve never really discovered how much I like romance novels until this year. And paranormal romance has also caught my attention this past summer.

In June, I read Howl’s Moving Castle. I really was hoping it would be like the stellar animated movie but no… man…

During the Awesome Trip, I read the Talisman series by Brenda Pandos. It’s a part of the Vampire Genre, which I really don’t like, but this was EXCEPTIONAL! I cried, laughed, giggled, and I would not stop talking about it with my family. You can imagine my brother’s annoyance on our vacation.

The next book I read was a Supernatural YA Romance. OH MY GOSH! It was the best book EVER! The book is called Halflings by Heather Burch. It is about half angel half human beings protecting a teenage girl in Missouri. If you like romance novels, you will LOVE the Halflings series!

The second book in the Halflings series is Guardian. It just came out and I snatched a copy instantly. The third and final book is called Avenger. It’s not out yet! AAAAH! March 27th Avenger comes out! When will that date come?

What kind of books do you like to read? What is your favorite book or book series?

I’ll see you next time, peeps!

Get a Clue

Hello, everybody!

This past Friday, we went to the Mark Twain House to investigate the murder of Huck Finn’s father. Yep, I was a detective in a real life Game of Clue!

When we got to the house, I knocked on the door, and all we heard were loads of screaming and shrieking.  Mark Twain’s housekeeper, Katy Leary opened the door telling us to hurry in and that there was a murder in the house! She brought us down stairs through a secret passageway and we discussed what we were going to do. We had to go into all the rooms and ask the people in them questions like: Was it Aransas with a pipe in the billiard room? No, that was not the answer, but you get the point: Just like Clue.

The people in the rooms were actual characters from Mark Twain’s books. People like Arkansas in the billiard room, Becky Thatcher in the drawing room, some drunken dude in the kitchen (I think he called himself Rum… Go figure), Huck Finn in the dining room, Prince/Pauper in the bedroom, Adam from the Bible (who was quite disturbing) and Guinevere in the conservatory, and Aunt Polly in the schoolroom.

As we investigated our way through the home, we discovered many things. Like in the bedroom, Mark Twain had a gas lamp next to his bed and he would smoke right next to it. Good thing he never got blown away! All those great books would have never been written!

He also slept backwards because he wanted to enjoy his headboard on his bed. It was really expensive and he wanted to get his money’s worth. In the conservatory, Mr. Twain and his children enjoyed each other’s company with the fountain and the plants. Another thing I learned was his kids were homeschooled just like me!

After being great detectives, we believed it was Becky Thatcher with a revolver in the kitchen. Everybody said: “Wow, you really think it is Becky with the revolver, huh?” because of all the asking about her and her gun.

But, that would mean Tom Sawyer was dating a murderer! And that just can’t be … can it?

Well, I hope you weren’t planning on me giving the murderer away. After all it was a crime scene and everything is confidential. I have been sworn to secrecy until the police have investigated the case.

But I think us kids could give them a few pointers on how to run a thorough investigation, for sure!
